An established infectious disease specialist, Dr. Hawthorne is a partner with the Desert Infectious Consultants medical group in Palm Desert, California. He has spent much of his medical career as a public health practitioner at county and state levels of government. His passion for most of his career has been striving to maintain the health of the public against communicable diseases. His primary clinical interests include HIV, tuberculosis, general infectious disease and emerging infectious diseases that pose a risk on a population scale.
Pertaining to his education pursuits, Dr. Hawthorne earned his medical degree at the Emory University School of Medicine. Since childhood, Dr. Hawthorne envisioned becoming an emergency medicine physician. He matched at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center in Los Angeles, California for his emergency medicine residency program and University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) -affiliated hospitals in Long Beach and Torrance, California, for his preliminary internal medicine internship program. After completing his first year of emergency medicine residency at USC, he discovered that his career interests were more in line with completing an internal medicine training program. He completed his internal medicine residency at UCLA, followed by completing his infectious disease fellowship training at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Concurrent with fellowship training, he obtained his Master of Public Health degree from the University of Washington School of Public Health.
He is board-certified in infectious disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). His personal interests include astronomy, reading, cooking, informatics and electronics.
